Kutch Embroidery

Till now I have been learning stitches. Straight stitch and running stitch families. I’ll embroider a dress now. I’m use Kutch work in it. It is basically an Indian embroidery. I learned this few years back. I just didn’t know this name. I knew this embroidery as Gujarati. It involves mainly straight stitches with threads weaving around the stitches. Well I’m not sure, if I should use the word “weave”. You’ll know what I mean during the process.

The Kutch work can be done in many shapes. The main thing is, you have to know how to draw it. It needs to be drawn in graphs. Otherwise the shapes of squares will not look good.

Drawing the Kutch Embroidery Diagram:

Use the graph paper, while drawing the diagram. Otherwise, the squares will not be of same size. Here I have taken six blocks (three in X axis and three in Y axis) for each square. The one I’m showing today is the basic structure of the Kutch work.

The Process:

1. Take three blocks parallely and three horizontally. Make a square.

2. Make four squares in the four corners of the first square.
